A Point to Ponder
¡§How are you feeling today?¡¨ is a rather common question, especially if someone has been unwell for a while. Feelings and emotions can change from day to day, and at times it might seem as though we are on an emotional roller coaster. One thing is certain, no matter how we might feel on any given day, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). As an Afro-American spiritual puts it: ¡§Sometimes I¡¦m up, sometimes I¡¦m down, but still I know I¡¦m heavenward bound¡¨. Whether we¡¦re feeling up or down, feeling well or not, faith confesses: ¡§Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. I am at peace with God, and I¡¦m heavenward bound.¡¨ May God bless us as we prepare to celebrate those truths in Communion next Sunday morning. Pastor Jim.

Sokrat and Lena, a church planter couple in Macedonia, offer adult literacy classes to the Roma women in the community they are ministering in. Most of these women are either illiterate, or their reading level is too low to read a Bible. Through literacy classes, Sokrat and Lena nourish these women with the gospel message and improve their ability to function in society, a double blessing. Please pray for their ministry! www.bibleleague.ca
Coming this fall the Leadership Development Network in Calgary, Chinook Mentoring Ministries.
This will be the sixth year running and over time it has evolved into a highly beneficial course for church leaders closely linked with Surrey and Kamloops, BC curriculum. This is a 1-3 year program, with intake each year for leaders or potential leaders of the church. It will challenge you in your faith and personal life, gain a greater knowledge to study and understand the bible, give you skills in leadership, and learn ways to reach the world for Christ. It covers a wide range of topics as well as Theology. Time commitment is one Saturday a month and you are expected to read one book each month, supplied by CMM relating to current session topics, write a short book report, complete one other assignment, and meet once a month with mentor to talk through curriculum and spiritual formation matters. If this is of interest to you check out the web site at www.chinookministries.ca or talk to Pastor Curtis Korver at Covenant CRC in Calgary(403)254-2505.
From the Voice of the Martyrs: Nigeria - Please pray for those in the Christian village of Mazzah, where eight Christians were killed and seven houses were burned. Reverend Nuhu Dawat escaped with one of his children but his wife and two other children were killed. Pray for Nigerian authorities as they seek to restore law and order in the region. Pray that those responsible will be brought to justice. Ask God to enable Nigerian Christians to respond to their persecutors in a Christ-like manner, with forgiveness and without retaliation.
KIDS CORNER - The Ninth Commandment: What¡¦s the big deal about lying? Little lies don¡¦t really hurt anyone, do they? Check out the 9th Commandment on this week¡¦s Kids Corner. Then write to Kids Corner at P.O. Box 5070, Burlington ON L7R3Y8 or kids@kidscorner.net for your very own Bible study.
