A Point to Ponder
Today we celebrate Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the early followers of Jesus. The Spirit of the living God continues to lead and guide believers today, and one of the primary means He uses is the Holy Bible. The Bible has been referred to as ¡§a window in this prison-world, through which we may look into eternity¡¨. Someone else has noted that ¡§people do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself, but because it contradicts them¡¨. J.C. Ryle wrote: ¡§The dark ages of Christendom were times when the Bible was kept back from the people. The Protestant Reformation was mainly affected by translating and circulating the Bible.¡¨ As children, some of us used to sing: ¡§Read your Bible, pray every day, and you¡¦ll grow, grow, grow¡¨. Are we following that simple advice? Pentecost Sunday is a very fitting time to rededicate ourselves to the Word of God and the God of the Word. Pastor Jim.
