The United Nations Human Development Index rates Niger as the poorest country in the world. Balancing what is good for sustainable development with one's Christian calling to be compassionate is not easy here. Our three partners in Niger are at completely different capacity levels, but each one has gained in their ability to manage their own development program. Coffee Break Coffee Break is a weekly Bible study group for women of all ages. For more information, visit the official site. Times for GEMS: every second Wednesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Contact: Marlene Kiers 223-9685 Cadets The Cadet Corps at Taber CRC runs programs for boys in third through eighth grades. The focus of our program is to help the Cadets grow spiritually, emotionally, and personally. A typical meeting consists of opening activities (Cadet pledge, motto, verse, and uniform inspection), a time of Bible study geared towards the different age groups, a hands-on project or a session teaching a certain skill, and a game. Throughout the year we also hold a number of special events such as campouts, pinewood derby car races. For more information, visit the official site. Times for Cadets: every second Thursday evening. Contact: Bill Hiemstra 223-8614 Friendship Club The Friendship Club is a ministry to the handicapped where they meet for singing, Bible study and fellowship and are welcomed and encouraged in their vibrant faith. We greet each other, chat, sing, do simple Bible Stories, crafts and finish with coffee, juice and cookies. Times for Friendship Club: every second Monday at 7:00 p.m. Contact: Bea VanGeest 223-1298 Alpha Alpha: "A practical introduction to the Christian Faith" For more information, visit the Alpha site. Catechism Catechism: Regular classes of doctrinal instruction are offered to students from Grades 7 – 12. We meet every Tuesday night from 7:30-8:30 and use materials based on Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, Bible books, World Religions, The Church, etc. Gifted and committed volunteers from the congregation help teach classes along with the Pastors. Times for Cadets: every second Thursday evening from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Contact: Pastor Ken Young Peoples Young Peoples: A group of about 25 young people (ages 16-18) meet regularly for times of discussion, fellowship and encouragement. Lessons address topic of interest like “How do you spend your money?” Activities include game nights, sport activities, or special events. The group meets in the homes of the participants so the parents can also be involved and take part. Contact: Pastor Ken Young Adults Young Adults: A group of 20+ young adults – (age 19+) meets regularly for study and fellowship. They recently planned and went on an exciting mission trip to Haiti to minister to the poor people there, building a home and helping a medical team. (See pictures 2004). (See pictures 2005). Contact: Pastor Ken Choir Choir: About 15-20 voices take part in the choir. It meets 4-6 times before Christmas to prepare and lead in the special Christmas services. It meets again 4-6 before Easter to prepare some selections for the special Easter services. Contact: Bev VanderGaast 223-1856 Nursery Nursery: Our church offers nursery care for infants in both services. The facility includes cribs and play areas. The nursery is always supervised by one or more adults and then some young people also help care for the children. Contact: Joanne Langeweg 545-2071 Sunday School Sunday School is offered for all children ages 3- Grade 6 during the 2nd half of the morning service. Children join their parents for the opening prayer and praise time in the sanctuary but then go to their Sunday school classes and hear a Bible Story geared to their level of understanding.
